Efflorescence
The moment of blooming is universally admired. In still life paintings—as well as in traditional floral arranging—specimens are chosen for their vigor, vitality and fullness. This work delves into the prime moments of blooming with layers of nuance: implications of the labor required to achieve blooming, the threat of severing the bloom for display, and the inevitability of fading… all offer underlying notes of melancholy to the pieces in this body of work.
